Set-Backs

Today I’m going to talk about set-backs. Set-backs happen throughout our lives. Just when things start to move and start going in the direction we want and then something happens bring things to a screeching halt. Not only do you have to deal with the complete stall of your vision, but also all the collateral damage. Take my week. I had the marvelous opportunity to teach at a women’s retreat and meet some really wonderfully courageous women and somehow came home with a torn rotator cuff in my right shoulder. Now, we are also in the process of packing up part of the house for a remodel. Although, my pain is greatly reduced, my momentum has skidded to a snail’s pace and if I really want to heal, I have to go slow. I want to look to the sky with my best “mommy’s not happy” look and growl something like “really?” Ok, maybe I did that.

Now, I have be patient and allow my body to heal; but I can still make progress if I think outside the box. Where before there was a whole list of things I could easily do myself, now I have to ask for help. I can request help as a gift, in trade, or for a price. Set-backs are an opportunity to live in the larger community and learn where our support really comes from. We don’t have to do it all, just our part. Learning this lesson relieves a great deal of stress we did not know we carried. So, be patient, be creative, and keep plugging. It will come.
